The Governing Committee of the Federation of Food
Industry Workers of Argentina (FTIA) denounced today in
a press release that Kraft Foods has laid off 150
workers from its General Pacheco plant, including some
union leaders and members of its internal steering
committee.
FTIA
called Kraft’s move a “wholly unjustified
decision, devoid of any social responsibility, with no
respect for applicable laws in force and totally
groundless, as well as being degrading for workers as it
tramples their rights and seeks to install fear and
force as valid instruments for maximizing their
profits.”
“It is absolutely unacceptable -the Federation’s press
release continues- that workers be made to suffer the
consequences of this company’s unscrupulous policy,
whose actions are aimed at covering its true intention
of intensifying and exacerbating the conflict to
continue applying mass and indiscriminate layoffs. Which
is why this Federation expresses its firm solidarity
with and support to the Union of Food Industry Workers
of Buenos Aires.”
FTIA
further announced that by way of the IUF it “will
denounce Kraft internationally for the violations
of workers’ rights in our country.”
The Latin American Regional Office of the IUF
extends its deepest solidarity with the laid off workers
and plans to remain in permanent contact with FTIA
to begin coordinating possible joint actions for the
immediate future. We will expand on this information
soon.
