Colombia and the plight of the hostages
Ten photographs that speak of 3,000 lives

Only 10 of the 3,000 lives held
captive in Colombia

As of last April 9th, the front windows of the Palacio de Linares, the headquarters of Casa de América in Madrid, are covered by ten photographs of Colombian kidnapping victims.

Just a few meters from the famous Plaza de Cibeles, in the heart of downtown Madrid, ten faces look out onto the street, calling passersby to reflect on the terrible situation suffered by nearly 3,000 people held in captivity in Colombia.

The photos belong to: 1. Enrique Murillo Sánchez, 2. Pablo Emilio Moncayo, 3. John Jairo Durán, 4. Erasmo Romero, 5. Ingrid Betancourt, 6. Eduardo Ignacio León, 7. Javier Rodríguez, 8. José A. Torres, 9. Luis Alfredo Moreno, and 10. Guillermo Javier Solórzano.

According to official figures, the majority of the people kidnapped in Colombia are held by the FARC and the National Liberation Army (ELN).
