The IUF's Latin American
Regional Office (Rel-UITA) and the General Workers’ Confederation of
Spain (UGT) have a rich history of trade union and political solidarity,
dating back to the time when the labor movement was the main target of the
repression unleashed by military dictatorships and de facto governments.
With globalization and the process
of corporate concentration in the dairy industry, today more than ever labor
organizations in Spain and Latin America must coordinate their actions and
combine their capacities.
Through this Cooperation
Agreement, the Argentine Association of Dairy Industry Workers (ATILRA),
the Agro-Food Federation of the General Workers' Confederation (FTA-UGT)
and Rel-UITA formalize a joint monitoring process to closely follow the
operations of dairy transnational corporations and the problems and challenges
faced by the sector's trade unions and dairy farmers.
Under this agreement, they
undertake to increase information sharing, collaborate in trade union training
initiatives and in efforts to improve working conditions, and strengthen
solidarity actions.
ATILRA,
FTA-UGT and Rel-UITA also agree to create an economic fund to
organize training and research activities and to publish special reports of
interest to the three organizations.
