On the opening day of the 37th
Meeting of the IUF's Latin American Executive Committee in Bogotá, the president
of Colombia's United Workers' Federation (CUT), Tarsicio Mora Godoy, presented
IUF regional secretary Gerardo Iglesias with a diploma in recognition of the
organization's work in support of the struggles of Colombia's workers.
Participants at
the first session of the Latin American Executive Committee (CEL)
Meeting had a very moving moment when a United Workers' Federation (CUT)
delegation departed unexpectedly from the meeting's agenda to present IUF
Regional Secretary Gerardo Iglesias with a diploma in recognition for his
commitment to Colombia's working class.
Iglesias
thanked the CUT delegation for this honor and declared that he was accepting it
on behalf of the entire team of the Latin American Executive Committee, as
nothing would have been possible without their constant dedication and backing.
The diploma
reads: “In recognition to our fellow trade unionist, Gerardo Iglesias Aguirre,
who in his capacity as IUF Latin American Regional Secretary has guided with
true working class spirit the struggle of the workers of Latin America, in their
ongoing battle to achieve social redemption and pave democratic roads to
regional integration.”
The diploma is
signed by Tarsicio Mora Godoy, CUT president, Domingo Tovar
Arrieta, CUT general secretary, and Raúl Arroyave Arango,
CUT international relations director.
