The IUF’s regional secretary for Latin
America, Gerardo Iglesias, proposed that the 25th
Congress of the IUF issue a statement on the
situation of human and labor right violations in Brasil’s
poultry plants. His proposal came after a report by
Geni Dalla Rosa, health secretary of CONTAC.

“Thousands of women suffer daily under
appalling working conditions. They bear the pain in their
bodies, bodies that cannot endure the work pace in the
poultry plants of Brazil. Our country is world
champion of chicken exports, and to win that title it has
also turned into the world champion of victims of Repetitive
Strain Injuries (RSI),” Geni Dalla Rosa
					declared.

					The CONTAC leader gratefully
acknowledged the IUF’s support and the solidarity of
the Swedish labor movement, provided through Lo-Tco,
which has been backing the National Campaign Against the
					Work Pace in Poultry Plants.

“We need to make the government of Brazil
aware of the situation, so that it will urgently deal with
the issue and put an end to this terrible massacre,”
					Iglesias emphasized.
