Food service
workers held escraches* against
several
hotels in Buenos Aires
Juan José Bordes, UTHGRA
labor secretary, demanded “that workers be paid decent wages.” In front of the
Alvear, Four Season, and Plaza hotels, he also declared that “hotel and
restaurant workers around the country are standing up for their rights because
regrettably the 4 and 5 star hotels organized in the Tourism Hotel Association (AHT)
refuse to give workers a decent raise.”
Consulted as to what the following steps are, he said that
“we will continue with the mobilization in the rest of the country, at every 4
and 5 star hotel that belongs to the AHT, where fellow union members will
conduct escraches similar to the one we’re holding today in Buenos Aires.”
When asked if the AHT president was ignoring their
demands, he stressed that he “doesn’t think so; he knows very well what we’re
asking for, but the problem is that the ‘black hand’ at play here doesn’t want
us to have a more than 16.5 % raise.”
