Public Statement No. 33

The National Resistance Front Against the Coup addresses the Honduran people and the international  community

In view that:

1. For 131 consecutive days of struggle we have pressed for a peaceful solution to the political crisis that our country is suffering as a result of the coup d’état perpetrated by the Honduran oligarchy, and that throughout this time we have supported all the initiatives that have been put forward by several national and international sectors, maintaining three essential demands:

a) the return of institutional order with the reinstatement of the legitimate president, Manuel Zelaya Rosales;

b) respect for the people’s sovereign right to set up a National Constituent Assembly with the aim of refounding our nation;

c) punishment for all human rights violators.

2. That the agreement known as the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Accord stipulates as its top priority the country’s return to constitutional order and literally establishes that “the Presidency must be returned to its incumbent prior to June 28, who shall hold it until the current term of government ends on January 27, 2010.”

3. That the National Congress, co-responsible for the breakdown of the constitutional order on June 28, is employing delaying tactics, by refusing to convene the general assembly to repeal the decree that installed the de facto regime.

4. That the OAS and the government of the United States, who we consider an accomplice in the military coup, show no interest in definitely ousting the coup perpetrators from power.

We therefore resolve as follows:

1. If by midnight tonight, Thursday, November 5, at the latest, President José Manuel Zelaya Rosales is not reinstated in office, the National Resistance Front Against the Coup will not recognize the electoral process and its results.

2. We alert all the organizations participating in the Resistance throughout the country to be ready to carry out actions to reject the electoral farce if President Zelaya is not reinstated by the deadline.

3. We call on the international community to maintain its position of refusing to legitimize the de facto regime and the Nov. 29 elections.
