URGENT – LAST MINUTE

Brutal repression of the dictatorship in Tegucigalpa

Carlos Reyes, Secretary General of the Union of Beverage and Related Industry Workers (STIBYS) and member of the International Committee of the IUF  was arrested and sent to the hospital, with his head hurt and a broken arm.

At noon in Honduras, during a peaceful demonstration in the northern area of Tegucigalpa, social organizations suffered extreme and massive repression by combined military and police forces in a clear strategic turn of the regime policy against resistance demonstrations. We have been informed that resistance leaders were clearly the target of repression.

Other members of STIBYS were also beaten and several of them are detained.

Juan Barahona, coordinator of the Popular Bloc and a member of the National Front against the Coup was beaten and arrested in the Police Station of Belen, along with other leaders.

Roger Vallejo Soriano, a 38-year-old teacher was wounded by a bullet in his head and is very seriously injured. According to our information other people were reached by bullets and are injured.

Testimonies being broadcasted by Radio Globo report a considerable number of injured and arrested.

Rel-UITA calls all affiliates to be on full alert for an imminent campaign of support and solidarity with our affiliates in Honduras, their leaders and the Honduran people being subject to ruthless repression.
