Guatemala, February 8, 2012

It is with a heavy heart that we inform national and international labor organizations of the untimely and terrible death of our fellow unionist Jorge Enrique Torres Lezama (known by everyone as Quique), who had served since the 1970s as an advisor to Embotelladora Central Trade Union (STECSA) and other organizations members of our Federation.

We express our deepest condolences to his family and friends and to the Guatemalan labor movement as a whole, as Quique was also an advisor to other trade unions.

Our grief is compounded by outrage, as Quique’s death is the result of an armed robbery of which he was victim on January 25. We demand a thorough investigation by competent authorities to find the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to justice.
