Mr. Marc Moesgen Dreyfus
Executive President
Nestlé Ecuador
Dear Sir,
We have been informed by the
Labor Committee of Nestlé Ecuador Workers,
an affiliate of our organization, that your
company has violated national legislation and
breached the Collective Work Agreement currently
in force.
On March 9 last, despite having
been recently rewarded by the company for their
outstanding efficiency, thirteen workers were
fired because of their decision to join the
Union. This measure clearly violates ILO
Convention 87 concerning Freedom of Association
and Protection of the Right to Organize, which
was ratified by Ecuador in 1967.
By means of this letter we wish
to inform you, Mr. President, that the IUF
will be directing major efforts to call the
attention of the international public to this
unacceptable and discriminatory course of action
taken by Nestlé Ecuador.
The IUF and its 380
affiliated organizations from 122 countries
around the world will continue to follow the
situation closely and take any actions that are
necessary to have the thirteen workers
reinstated in their jobs.
Sincerely yours,
Gerardo Iglesias
