Countdown in SABMiller

Despite some
partial agreements, the differences over wages persist |

Yesterday, Wednesday, January 9, marked the second day
in the negotiations between the Union of Beverage and
Related Industry Workers (STIBYS) and
SABMiller,
resumed as a result of a summons from the Ministry of
Labor issued as the legal deadline to begin the strike
approached.

STIBYS’s
Carlos Reyes informed Sirel that in
yesterday’s negotiations the parties reached an
agreement “on certain regulatory issues that are very
important to us, although nothing has been signed yet.
However, the positions on the subject of wages are still
very distant, and that is the key issue that will be
discussed today, Thursday the 10th.”

“Our Union has everything set to begin the strike –Reyes
added-, everyone’s prepared, we’ve handed out flyers
to all the company’s clients and we’ve informed public
opinion of what’s going to happen and why. Nevertheless,
we will sit down again to negotiate today and see if
there’s any possibility of an agreement. If there isn’t,
on the first minute of Friday the 11th, the
strike will begin,” he concluded.
