In the town of General
Rodríguez, Buenos Aires
Province, there is a Nestlé
and Eco de los Andes water
bottler  with more than 400
workers. A reaction to union
busting has led the plant to
a strike of the Argentinean
Federation of Carbonated
Beverages and Related
Industry Workers (FATAGA).

Consulted by Sirel,
FATAGA leader
Pablo Quiroga,
reported that “Juan
Pablo Costa, a
32-year-old lab worker at
the plant recently decided
to join the union. The
company, claiming that lab
workers are not covered by
the collective bargaining
agreement in force, decided
to take an action --probably
considered exemplary and
intimidating for the
remaining lab workers-- and
dismissed him on July 31.”

In spite of the steps taken
by the local Union and the
Federation, Nestlé refused
to reconsider the decision.
Consequently, since
yesterday, Monday 3, the
plant of General Rodríguez
is totally paralyzed in
solidarity with Juan
Pablo Costa.

Pablo Quiroga
asserted that this strike
will continue until the
reinstatement of Costa to
his position and until his
union membership becomes
effective with no negative
consequences whatsoever for
this worker.
