Coca-Cola workers in state of alert

Public Statement by STCC

Message to the workers of Coca-Cola, the Federation of Beverage Industry Workers (FOEB) and the National Confederation of Trade Unions (PIT-CNT) and to IUF members:

Having called an urgent Expanded Delegate Congress of Coca-Cola Workers to deliberate on the current serious situation it faces,

Resolves to:

- Express its appreciation to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security for its valuable participation in the meetings held in that ministry, as well as for the suggestions, efforts and ideas it contributed with the aim of reaching a solution to the conflict;

- Reaffirm its refusal to accept any changes in our work structure that may generally or totally affect the workday, considering that it would be undignified for Union members to accept that a group of 22 employees work four-hour workdays (with the subsequent reduction in their income) while the remaining 670 employees in addition to working their eight-hour workday are required to be available for new shifts in different hours, thus forcing them to work overtime. The Union is not willing to breach any rules or provisions established under labor legislation, nor will it ignore the agreements signed;

- Continue to be open to any solution that may be found, provided that our principles are not compromised, as we will never abandon them, and neither do we want to compromise those of the other party;

- Keep all workers updated and in a state of alert, reaffirming the role of the Expanded Congress, where all union members are entitled to participate;

- Thank our fellow labor organizations for the solidarity they have shown, in particular, FOEB, IUF, FATAGA (the Argentinean Federation of Carbonated Beverages and Related Industry Workers) by way of FELATRAC (The Latin American Federation of Coca-Cola Workers), and the many Coca-Cola workers’ unions from around the world that sent their messages of support.
